The LinkedIN Genomics Student Lab group is active! Do not hesitate to join or invite other people you know who have had or may have a link to the GSL. The idea is that people that were or are part of the GSL keep in touch and remain informed on new GSL developments. The Genomics Student Lab expanded in 2015 from the Green Student Lab, hence all (former) members of the Green Student Lab are of course also welcome to join!

The SILS MSc internship market of yesterday was a great success. More than 120 students met over 50 SILS scientists to talk about future research projects covering a broad range of topics, from Mass Spectrometry and Biocatalysis to Neurobiology, Microbiology and Plant Biology. The Genomics/Green Student Lab was of course also there to present its innovative concept to new MSc students. We were very happy to welcome again Nienke Koopman, Michiel Konings and Boas van der Putten, GSL alumni of 2016 and 2015, respectively, who seemed glad to share their experience with newcomers.

The new edition of the SILS MSc internship market (stagemarkt) will take place on Monday the 19th of September from 11 am until 1 pm in the Central Hall at Science Park 904. The team of the Green Student Lab will of course be present! This is a great opportunity for new student candidates to come to us for information about internships at the GSL. Plus: there is free pizza for all participants!


On the 20th of July, a couple of Green Student Lab students were kindly invited for a tour at Syngenta, Enkhuizen. They also presented results of their project linking small RNAs and yield of cauliflower, which were received with a lot of interest.


The Green Student Lab is looking for a new team of students! A new academic year has started and the project portfolio is waiting for you.

The students of the Green Student Lab would like to thank the Amsterdams Universiteitenfonds for funding €24,000 to purchase lab-equipment. The money will be well spend on PCR-equipment, a refrigerator, pipettes etc. With the growing number of students this funding is urgently needed for our future research.

It is a busy day today. We welcome two new students. Eva Sormani, a master student Science, Business & Innovation, from the VU will be here for a science project for four months and Mylène de Boer a UvA student, bachelor biomedical science doing an internship for five months.


We welcome a new master student. Tom Neetens an UvA master student biomedical sciences will be here for an intersnhip for seven months.


It's been a busy week. We welcome a new master student. Arlo Hoogeveen an VU Bioinformatic student will be here for an intersnhip for six months.


We welcome a new master student. Tessa Hemrika an UvA master student biomedical sciences will be here for an intersnhip for six months.


We welcome a new master student. Lars Borm an UvA master student biomedical sciences will be here for two months to learn about bioinformatics.


A busy day at the lab: we welcome 5 new students today! UvA master student biomedical sciences Kawing Chung will do an internship with us for 7 months. Also joining us part-time are 4 bachelor students form the Hogeschool Leiden. They will be working on data analysis in the Green Forensics project in collaboration with Naktuinbouw.


We welcome yet another new student to the lab: Marina Tous Mulet. Marina is an international student and will do a project with us for 5 months.


We welcome a new student to the lab: Sam Nooij. Sam is a master student Green Life Sciences and will stay with us for 8 months.


The Green Student Lab will be present at the SILS master internship market on September 15th 11:00 - 13:00. Please come by for a slice of pizza and to talk to us about the possibilities to do an internship in the Green Student Lab!

We welcome our first student from Inholland: Tessa Pronk. Tessa will stay with us for 5 months and will work on a project in collaboration with Bejo Zaden.



Our brand new office/dry-lab space is now in use! 


The Green Student Lab welcomes its first international student: Beren Aylan from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey. She will stay with us to do a summer internship.


Four students have started working on their Bachelor thesis in the Green Student Lab. The topics include biofortification of rice and using plants to create vaccines against Staphylococcus aureus.



The students have moved into their own wet-lab space!




More students are coming in with the start of the Bachelor Projects. We welcome Mike, Joost and Remy who will be working on removal of rRNA from total RNA for sequencing purposes in 3 different plant species. 


The Green Student Lab has been selected by the Amsterdam University Fund as an example project in their yearly University Fund campaign in the category "Student Facilities". This means that the AUF will raise funds for the Green Student Lab among alumni, friends and other relations of the University of Amsterdam.  The proceeds will be used to purchase new laboratory equipment for the Green Student Lab.



The Green Student Lab gets off to a good start with the launch of a website and the start of our first "official" student Ian! He will be working on miRNA discovery in cucumber.
